Abstract

Globalization has redefined the contours of Indian culture by introducing new norms that frequently contest longstanding traditions. The present analysis examines four interrelated dynamics—economic liberalization, technological advancements, migration patterns, and the rising education of women—that have collectively driven cultural and social change. Evidence from the study indicates a discernible movement from originally cohesive joint-families toward more autonomous nuclear units, as well as a sustained migration from the countryside to cities. The expanded participation of women in diverse professional sectors, the pervasive circulation of imported commercial goods, and the concurrent bargaining power of indigenous products together illustrate the breadth of this transformation. The paper records a substantive literature review, employs applied ethics to frame the ensuing dilemmas, and applies reflexivity to the researchers’ positionality. It advocates a deliberate equilibrium whereby conserving cultural traditions coexists with responsible engagement with the modern world. The conclusion proposes that coherent policy, judicious legislation, inclusive media campaigns, and curricular innovation must function in tandem to foster social cohesion in the face of ongoing cultural evolution.
