Abstract

This paper examines the demographic transitions within post-colonial nations, studying the
persistent factors from colonial legacies and the disruptive influences from reforms during the
independence era. This study employs a comparative methodology using historical and
demographic data to study India and Nigeria and Kenya and Brazil, emphasizing their trends in
fertility, mortality, urbanization, and life expectancy. The results indicate enduring inequalities
from colonial institutional frameworks with some constructive local governance changes. The
study draws attention to the need to construct adequate development strategies for these regions
in order to address sustainable development while paying attention to historical context
alongside demographic trends.
